    Check reviews. Philips players have a chip that makes them break one day after warranty expires.

    I did not do anything extra since I bought it. I searched the web and I did not find any reference about the warranty chip in dvp5140. My brother bought two from Costco for $40 ea and he has no problems with them.

    I underclocked the warranty chip on my Philips DVD player. Now it will last longer before crapping out (ie. 35 days instead of 30).
