Overstock has the Philips Hf3470/60 Wake-up Light for $48 + $3 shipping = $51 shipped. Simulates a natural sunrise by gradually increasing light 30 minutes prior to your set wake-up time. Features 20 brightness settings, 2 natural wake-up sounds, digital FM radio, and 4 display brightness settings.
Only problem is if someone plays a prank on you changing your wake up time, or you plain just set the wrong time by accident.. It may be a bit harder to snooze a "250 lux" light.
Lx.... Why not just put the lumen or watt rating of the bulb..
"The difference between the units lumen and lux is that the lux takes into account the area over which the luminous flux is spread. A flux of 1000 lumens, concentrated into an area of one square metre, lights up that square metre with an illuminance of 1000 lux. The same 1000 lumens, spread out over ten square metres, produces a dimmer illuminance of only 100 lux. Mathematically, 1 lx = 1 lm/m2."
Agreed #1. Unless they're shipping you a fixed surface area room in which to place this light, lux rating is meaningless.

Along with luxing you awake, this unit wakes you up with two natural sounds: belching and farting. Great for the dorm room...
