You got this new for $50. Why bother getting a refurbished one
Why buy a new one for $50 when you can get a white hooker for $100? Is upconversion necessary in a player? Don't HD TV's do that anyways?
this is a nice one.. but new isnt much more than refurb.. and you can get one with usb without paying much more either.
#2 The DVD player looks at the compressed data coming off the disk so it has more information available for up converting. For example, the player can use the motion vectors to help interpolate the data from across multiple frames.

Is anyone aware of an upconverting DVD player over component? I know that it isn't a technical restriction but is a "rule" restriction by the motion picture industry. I have an excellent Panasonic TV (51") that I feel has many years left in it and would love to take advantage of the 1080i feature of the TV (no HDMI, no DVI).
#2 NOT all HD-TVs do upconversion from 480p to 1080i/720P...
#7, all the panasonic players such as this one have component
video output.
