Does this one have a USB connector like some of the other Philips players?
#2 - no, but it will fit in a low-profile PCI slot in case you'd like to fit it into your server.
But I'd just pay $20 more and get the hot-swappable blade version.
can upconvert really make the picture better? any opinion on that?
I bought this, didn't really notice a difference. I didn't do any thorough testing or side-by-side comparisons. I just played a bit of a movie, swapped players and played the same movie again. Nothing stood out. Plays +R/-Rs & Divx well though, so it was a good deal anyway. I wouldn't go replacing a regular player if what you currently have plays fine.
If you up converter in your HDTV is high quality, there is no need to up convert it using the DVD player. Don't forget this is a $40 player with a "up-converter"... I wonder how good this upconverter could be.
