You absolutely can't beat 1000TC sheets - there is nothing like it, and the women in your life will especially appreciate them. It's worth the money if you buy right, as they last forever. These are terrific sheets, but in my experience, click Ben's link but spend an additional $19 and get the ones at Amazon called "Luxury Single-Ply Sateen Sheet Set". Noticeably better than these, probably the best 1000TC available at any price.
It's always best to be an informed consumer. Google searches on the topics of "thread counts" and related articles will help to dispel some of the TC # marketing myths.
Thread count DOES matter, BUT it does follow the law of diminishing returns. I found out that at 650 thread count and up, unless its from a really good brand, it feels very similar.
Go to a brick and mortar store and feel the types of sheets you would like to buy. #1 mentioned Sateen Sheets which I do not like because they have a glossish feel and shine to them.
Nevertheless, I have a bed set that someone bought be of 1000TC, the soft feel is incredible.
