CircuitCity.com has the Pioneer VSX-518-K 5.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver for $170 with free shipping. It pumps out 120W per channel, with a THD rated for 0.05% @ 8 ohms. [BizRate]
Without heading downstairs I think this is the receiver I got. I paid a lot less however last Black Friday (believe it was something crazy like $129). Would like a little more power out of it but for an average set up it's fine. I have it powering a Bose setup and it does an ok job (keep the bose rips to a minimum - needed the speakers in the living room to leave a small footprint). Easy to install and use. Remote is nicely laid out.
#1: The reason you think you need more power, is that Bose systems (for the most part) are very innificiant. Some tests (not by Bose) done have reported a rating of <85db@1w. Try to borrow a set (of speakers) from a friend and do an A/B (with both sets hooked up), and you will see the difference. Bose doesn't have an exclusive on small speakers. I have this in the basement, hooked up to a set (5) of old NTH "Zero's" and a 12" sub, and it has plenty of range for movies and music. I think I paid $150.ish with free/ship. Not a bad unit.
