Discovery Store has the Planet Earth: The Complete Series (A&E) Channel Version) on Blu Ray for $24 + $4 shipping = $28 shipped. This release includes all the episodes from the original production. Narrated by the Alien woman.
This isn't the BBC series. It's the Discovery Channel series. They worked together to produce the series, but they have different narrators.
BBC: David Attenborough, who is a world-renowned nature program narrator for decades. He sounds like he's just telling stories and facts he cares about.
Discovery Channel's version: Sigorny Weaver narrates. In my mind, she sounds more like she's reading from a script...they both do, but she just SOUNDS like she's reading from a script.
However...while I can't stand Sigorny Weaver's narration, the Discovery Channel version of the BluRay does include the extra behind-the-scenes footage for each episode that the BBC version lacks.
Thanks for the info. I just did some research on the differences from the two and some say that the DC version is displayed in 1080i (shows up a little softer) than the BBC version which is 1080p. Not sure if I'd be able to tell the difference in the two on a 40" TV.
Also, the DC version has "dynamic music" as opposed to the original BBC version. Not sure I like the sound of that.
Amazing series to showcase the 60" 1080p you picked up on Black Friday.
Title says DVD but content says BluRay
Is there a catch here?

Lastly, I make no apologies for my spelling. :-p

I have this and it looks really good on a 50 wide screen TV. Sigorny Weaver does narrates and she does a wonderful job.
