Walmart.com has the Playstation 3 Console (40GB) for $399, plus they include a $100 Gift Card for future use. This is of course the downgraded PS3 with no backwards PS2 compatibility. Shipping is $10 or free ship to store. [BizRate]

Yeah, bestbuy has a price match. They'll match almost anything, but it really depends on the manager.

how amazing is it that sony can't make all of their PS3s play thier older, simpler games. What are they thinking? It really is a joke.

I was going to bite on this but my GF just told me I might be getting my hands on a MGS combo package that has already been shipped to their retail stores! I could be playing MGS a week before release... yikes!

Anyway, this is a good deal never the less. If you value playing outdated, old games then I suppose it's not and wait for a 80 gb version again. I would jump all over this... more so at BB which you can combine some reward points and has overall better stuff than Wal-Mart and get the same deal.

What's truly amazing is how #5 and #6 think they actually understand the economics of a corporation better than the people who work there.

    And with such simplicity too...

#8 and #9 are morons. I am sure someone in Sony's marketing department did just that. It makes the 80GB version seem like a better value because of the backwards compatability. As for old games, remember Sony sells probably just as many PS-2's as PS-3's.

I called best-buy, they wouldn't price match for me. Bastards. Wal-mart will work. So what if I am supporting the employment of poor-uneducated lower-class people. At least I get my cool baconnaise.

#10 - That almost made sense. Until you remember that the 80GB PS3 isn't being made any more. Nice try tho.

It's being re-released #13 with MGS. Stock is ultra limited. A rather large nationwide game and music chain where my GF works only received 250 units nationwide. I could have gotten my hands on one almost 10 days early but they actually took reserves a few weeks back before they knew any details from "corporate" at the store level. Now more then what they will have in stock is booked beyond their initial shipment and no word yet from Sony/Konami if more are coming out.

Again, Sony strikes out big time by not promoting this release correctly and having enough units on hand. It could have really turned out to be a re-launch to help get the PS3 going in this country. I guess 360 will continue to drop the must-have titles every few months. Sony could have pushed 200,000 units in a week with that package. Shameful.

Tell the people at Best Buy to have their manager check his email. There was a corporate memo sent out telling them to match the Walmart offer by selling the PS3 for $299. This has been reported on many sites.

Walmart is supposedly going to run a special next week where you get a $100 gift card with the purchase of any Blu Ray player including the PS3.

Some people have even combined this with the Sony Credit Card offer to get the PS3 for $199.

The 80Gb PS3 packaged with Metal Gear Solid and the DualShock controller is supposed to be released on June 12, so next weeks Walmart offer should cover it if you can find one.

This may be a stupid question, but does this come with a controller? The reason I ask why is the other Walmart deal so great for "PS3 40GB + Game + Controller + $100 GC $452". Does the extra $53 dollars just get you a game? or do you get 2 controllers?

The $399 deal sounds better if it comes with a controller.
