Does the new PS3 slim still have the same HDCP handshake issues via HDMI that the original PS3 versions have? Mine drives me crazy.

Don't listen to #6. He enjoys giving bad information to people here. He's really sick.

#6 Good point, except the new Slim is 120GB @ $299. Haven't heard of an 80GB model yet.

When I asked my son whether he wanted a PS3, he answered "it's limited, computer RPG's are better in terms of interaction." I like to have a PS3 for both gaming and blewray reasons, but I'm afraid he's right.

Agreed #2 & #6. I wish Ben would either put "refurb" on the title or bold it so I don't waste anymore of my work time!

Refurbed isn't always bad. I have a refurbed Nikon D40x bought from Newegg and it is just like new. I love it. 2 years ago I bought the wife an Ipod nano refurbed and it was spotless and worked perfectly as well.

It depends on the company you are dealing with. Because I also bought a refurbed Buffalo Linkstation and it was scratched up a little and missing a couple screws and the base plate. Also, I had to update the firmware or it wouldn't work.

When buying refurbed make sure you buy from 1) a reputable manufacturer, and 2) a reputable reseller. If you have both then buy with confidence.

Imho refurbs are generally fine although they tend to have a higher rate of failure right out of the box, although this is almost always within the manufacturers warranty... 80 bucks is 80 bucks... On a 1 - 10 I give this deal a 5.

The question should be, can this model play Playstation 2 games or is the emulation removed?

#16 The rule as I remember it (thought you still have to check the specs on the Sony site) is 4 USB ports, it handles PS2 games (separate processor or emulation), 2 USB ports, no luck.

What's the latest on the chance of a firmware update enabling PS2 BC? Sony recently received some patents for the emulation of their Emotion Engine, but there's been nothing tangible regarding its implementation into the PS3's FW. Just lots of rumors and a flat denial from Sony that it's ever going to happen....
