Newegg has the Polk Audio Monitor 60 Series II (2010 Model) Single Two-Way Floorstanding Loudspeaker for $180 - $70 off with coupon code EMCZNPY76 [Exp 1/5/2011] = $110 shipped. Multiple small-diameter driver design delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response.
These are a no-brainer. Old recording engineer here >> these are what they say they are. You'll need the PSW10 Polk subwoofer if you want to hear the entire frequency spectrum. I use one sub here for each channel. I drive the Polk 60's with 200 watt mono-block amps, one for each side, and it really opens them up. Decent, but not great, SPL level.
Other thoughts >> The older style w/silver front are actually much prettier. You wouldn't think so until you saw them side by side.
These are called 'monitors' for a reason. 'Nuff said.
These are nice for their price. However, they are far from audiophile grade speakers. These will definitely beat any Bose or Sony speakers out there. However, Polk has better speakers (for more money). If price is tight then go right ahead and jump on these. Otherwise if your budget is bigger then get either the RTiA series or LSi series speakers. Polk will be coming out with an upgraded LSi speaker sometime early next year called the LSiM series. From the sound of it they will be wonderful speakers. However, expect to pay $1000 for a pair of bookshelf speakers. The top end towers will go for double that or more.
About the PSW10. They are really not that good. Much better speakers out there from SVS, HSU, Epik, and others. Polk's DSW series subs are better too. Of course, more money though.
I have two of these on my home system. Good speakers for the price and great for listening to the TV with these. Yes I have a 12 Cerwin Vega sub hooked up. My cousin has a set of the RTI series speakers and you can tell why they cost more. Good budget speakers but if got the extra cash go for the RTI series.
Pretty good specs and lots of positive reviews. I'm tempted... but I used to have a pair of cheap Polk 2-ways that were, well, cheap sounding.
