Is this any good to go with a pair of large 10-12" front speakers (optimus speakers bought many years ago for about $300)? I'm using those with two sets of 5 1/8" bookshelf speakers for rear and surround speakers (Sony SS-B1000). Then I have a weak sub that I want to replace. I get a lot of bass out of the fronts. I watch movies on a projection screen as well as listen to music in a fairly large basement space.
You'll get some good and tight bass out of this. Sounds like it will be a good upgrade to your weak sub.
The PSW line of speakers is not good. You can definitely get better bang for your buck in other brands. Their DSW subs are better, but they cost more. At that point you could buy an HSU, SVS, Epik, or other line sub. I haven't done a comparison, but perhaps the HSU STF2 much be better than this. Also, the inexpensive BIC sub might be better (although Bic is not good compared to the rest in my list).
#1, this won't help you a lot. Remember that the subwoofer adds only depth to your audio and is not intended to 'rattle' the walls- that is supposed to be done by the woofers.
You may notice a slight increase in depth or none at all( if you use the sub at recommended levels). If you want a noticeable difference go for higher end subs like the Klipsch RW series.
If you had small satellites then any sub would give you good results.
Parts-express.com has some really good deals on 12" subs, thru Christmas. Their $155 model(250w, free ship) is a real value and IMO will blow this Polk away.
Thanks for the advice everyone.
