Nice a 1Gb 5770 for this... really nice.

There's a mistake I don't believe this supports Eyfinity, it looks to be 1x each DVI-D, VGA, and HDMI... No DisplayPort

I don't know. Lot of nasty problems in some of the 5,000-series cards in a lot of the user ratings.

I'm thinking of hanging back and just going with a trusty 4850 until the prices get real.

Launch date for GTX 470/480 approaching, it might be worth waiting a month to see if prices on other cards readjust before buying a > $100 card... unless you're getting anxious and itchy about it.

#3 -- Do you think these $100-150 will get any adjustment? I mean the 5850/5870 will adjust down to MSRP or a little less. While the 5830 might see $190-200, but that won't really cause the rest to cascade down. What we'll hopefully see a little more reality based price on the 5750 $140 is still to much.

I know it's getting old but could you proof read your fan post, you sound even more like a rodeo cowboy. All Ati prices will be falling, this is obvious and I don't have the interest in explaining it to you he162. The forecasts you plagiarize from your favorite web sites to regurgitate here never seem to materialize. I'm not surprised it's your "YAWN" predicable MO.

It didn't really even depend on GTX 470/480 launch by ltself, once the market segment ofthose willing to pay MSRP or above for the newest PC toys is tapped out then all ATI & partners can do is choose fewer sales (than an improved yield ratio would otherwise allow) or less per sale.

We read a lot online about the pride of owning some great newer video card but the market as a whole just doesn't buy many > $200 video cards, especially not several months later at a higher price than they were previously expected to be.

When higher tiered cards drop in price it can't help but reduce the values of the next tier down and so on.

5770 may not hit $100 AR within the next month, but that seems to be where it's headed. 4770, 4830 were under $100 AR.

Spoken like some whiz-kid with marketing aptitude. That is an open-end statement, that will assuredly come to pass sometime out in the future.

At least ATI "can" lower their prices, which undoubtedly makes it harder on Nvidia who will have a hard time recouping the production and engineering losses from their 6 months of set-backs.

While now you're moonlighting as a grammar teacher, that's scary. As you've said in the past the "education system in NY is failing". Maybe it's your doing; quit holding ESL courses before your regular night-shift.

Well we'll just have to see if my predictions will "materialize", we can revisit this topic around the end of April.

#6 -- That's all true and you're right, I just don't see it as an all out price-war at this point, just the market realignment to reality. I think there's so much of a buffer/spread below the 5850 it won't trickle down all that much further. What is MSRP for a 5850... is it $299 or is it $280?
    http://www.softsailor.com/news/20601-rumored-prices-for-nvidia%E2%80%99s-gtx-470-and-gtx-480-is-fermi-cheaper-than-expected.html

Given there's not any new or strongly priced offerings from Nvidia in the 5770/5830 range it is whatever ATI wants to make it and they have a ton of wiggle room there also. While the lower price points will not get much benefit in the next months' repositioning; although it would be nice if I'm wrong.
