Amazon.com has the Racor PBH-1R ProStor Bicycle Hoist Monster on sale for $16 with free shipping. Store your bike safely from the ceiling of your garage; Solid steel construction delivers a 55-pound load capacity. [BizRate]
You would be better off getting two large hooks that screw into the ceiling boards and hanging the bike(s) using the wheel rims (hang bike upside down).

I bought two of these from Sears for $21 or $25 each, I forget. Good deal at $16 and easily holds a full size mountain bike from the ceiling, freeing up tons of floor space.
Aside from being a PITA to mount to the ceiling, it's actually pretty simple to use and I would recommend this as a good purchase. You will need to mount this relatively close to a wall, since the rope has to hang down somewhere and includes a mount to attach to the wall to wrap the rope around when not in use. Once it's all mounted, it's easy to take down and put back up with the pulleys, you just get the rubber padded hooks under the handlebars and the back of the seat, then pull the rope to hoist it to the ceiling. Getting it down is the opposite, you just pull the rope a certain direction to disengage the rope lock that holds the rope tight and slowly let it down.
Once it is in the air, I was surprised at how secure it was. I pushed, shook, jiggled and every other motion I could think of to try to knock it off the hooks and was unable to. I have two of these mounted in the walkway of our garage and we've used them/walked under them for over two years with no issues. Great product and great price.
dont get anything from harbor freight. I have zero faith in anything from there. Unless you hate someone alot. In that case, give harbor frieght products as gifts to them.
Anyone used it and recommended?
Yep...I hoisted your sister up and **** her mercilously. Make sure you find a stud to bolt this thing in to or else sedate yer partner.

With only a 55-lb load capacity, you'd need at least five of these units working together to wrangle aforementioned sister. YMMV.
Harbor Freight Tools has this for $6 bucks: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=95803
Do any of you people with >$1k bikes use stuff like this?
