AT&T Wireless has the Refurbished iPhone 3G 8GB Phone for $149 when you activate a 2-year contract with them. Free 2-day shipping. The refurbished 16GB iPhone 3G is $249. Now you can join the flock while saving a little bit of money.

Why in the hell would anyone spend 150 for a refurb when the new one is 199?

Exactly. Don't do it, mine sucked. Battery was dead on first one, had to go to apple store. 2nd one, the reception for incoming calls was just horrible. To top it off, they emailed me just a plastic AT&T bag, no phone, when I ordered it. Something about miscommunication - you think?...

because existing customers that aren't eligible for upgrade can't get the 199 price. i fall into that category but was able to get a refurb for 149. i then swapped it out at the apple store for a new one due to a light leak problem. result, new iphone for $149 for a customer not eligible for upgrade.

might be a good path for some.

I got one of these and the only flaw on mine is one dead pixel. The only time I even notice it is when booting the thing up - it looks white on the black background. $50>>one dead pixel

#5, I'd take it in to the Apple store and swap it out. one dead pixel or not, it's still a defect.

#4, good point, handn't thought about that

I wish they would sell refurbished calling plans with these things. That's the part I can't afford.

Right on, #7, and along with refurbished Data plan too please. What's the rate on the data plan they force you to join when sign up for the iPhone? $29.99/mo?

#4, did you buy it with a new contract (new account and new number) or did you renew your existing contract?

I am thinking of the exact same thing, but since I am not "eligible for upgrade" according to ATT, even the refurb 8GB will cost over $300.

the refurb comes with the same warranty? Why not save yourself the $50... my 2g iphone just died last month took it back and they gave me a refurb, they always replace phones with refurbs.

Does anyone else find it amusing that people are arguing over the price of a phone that comes with a 2 year contract and a $30/month mandatory data plan ( over the already overpriced at&t service ).

$50 over the course of two years of At&T iPhone service is 5% ( before overage, apps, and TXT charges ).

I spend less a year than many of you spend a month on cell service.

#9 - renewal. i wasn't eligible for upgrade but was still able to get the bacon- it may have been a promotion, though. bought it at the end of december.

the refurb says it comes with 1 yr warranty, but i'm not sure if that's from YOUR purchase date, or the original purchase date. i may have to adjust the warranty through apple, since currently it comes up as from the original purchase date of the phone. this puts me about 2 months shy of a full 1yr warranty.
