These outlets also have to use a tiny bit of standby power to have a live circuit that detects the RF signal sent by the remote control.

Those devices that use more power, tend to do so for a reason, like keeping a clock running, keeping settings stored, etc.

Sockets like these are just a convenience in not having to get up and go over to the thing you want to turn on. Power a lamp or a Christmas tree from one, though even more convenient might be using a timer module so it comes on and off at certain times of day without having to touch a remote at all.

So they DO save energy - that of lazy ass users of this device that don't have to get up off the couch to turn off their ice cream makers.

I own these, the biggest problem with this is if there is no line of sight then it won't work. You have to be able to see it in order to control it. I was hoping that isn't the case, but it is.

Can I control this over the Internet?

This is so a person can use this tome I found on the internet called DIY Dentistry. So you can position a drill inside your mouth and turn it on!

I own these and they suck. The only thing they were good for was the Christmas tree, they are all in the trash now. FWIW, I paid less than this at geeks too.

I bought these and am very satisfied. Range is at least 30', and they shoot right through a stucco wall. Convenient and reliable.

The only issue is size - bigger isn't better.
