Geeks.com has the Remote Controlled Switch Socket 3-Pack for $14 + $8 shipping = $22 shipped. It allows remote operation of many electrical devices, including lamps, appliances, tools and more (not sure about the tools though).

Just bought these from ebay. plugged my cable modem into it. So when my wife is wasting time playing on facebook I hit the power in the hopes that she will get up from the computer and cook dinner. I was able to turn the power off from the other room.
