Geeks.com has the Remote Controlled Switch Socket 3-Pack for $18 + $8 shipping = $26 shipped. It allows remote operation of many electrical devices, including lamps, appliances, tools and more (not sure about the tools though).
they suck. They are only useful in near-field applications (like the aforementioned christmas lights)
the light on channel 1 (in both of mine) worked great from any distance.
Channel 2 and 3, you have to be right on top of, in order for them to turn off. I used them for basement lighting, where the boiler room had no overhead light, nor the fusebox room.
I used the third channel for an aux. room light.
both lights are line of site to the switch, which i placed in a central location, velcroed near the stairs. only channel 1 works with any success. the others - by the time i am close enough for it to work, i can just reach out and turn on the effing light manually.
Check out x10 at http://www.x10.com/onsale/index.html. Don't be scared by the scantily dressed babes. The products, if you buy them on sale, can be pretty good.
#10, that could be the worst website I've seen in sometime. The products are interesting but who designed that abomination of unprofessionalism? Are they selling pitchers and hot wings?
I have this. Works great for resetting my cable modem and router without having get up and go pull the plug. Only downside is that it takes a 23A 12Volt battery which costs $5 at Radioshack.
I could not disagree with #15 more. In my experience (I bought 2 sets of these) this product is absolute garbage. It work intermittently at best, and most of the time the remote does not work at all (on both sets I got). I though the first one was a fluke so I tired a 2nd one. NEVER again, shame on them for selling this.
Firstly, Costco sells 3 pack remove control switch for $16 with battery (save another $2) Secondly, like others said, Geeks' version doesn't work well. I have two sets(6 switch), one out of each set was not working well. I haven't try the costco ones, hope it works better.
has anyone had any luck with any of these?
does each unit have its own remote?
visit the link to get answers...
it would be nice if you could control these through your iphone via the internet.
There is only 1 remote for all the plugs. It works great! Real handy at Christmas time with the tree and other lights.
$26 is the highest price ever posted on Ben's. GREAT deal. Jump on it now....before the price goes down.
What if I clap real loud? will they all turn on????
#6 - any questions about your problems with the clap should be posed to your family physician.
I was actually looking for some of these the other day. Thanks Ben.
I bought 2 of these.

Bad reviews on Amazon.com.
Hey #6, if you clap your ass real loud, you probably turn yourself on...
These worked great gettin' rid of grandma -- we told her they were the clapper and left the lights on when we left --
and she thought she couldn't sleep with the lights on...
I wonder if the telephone customer service agents are as hot at the gals on the x10 website?
