i bought this last week from newegg, got it this week, and got it working in linux on my netbook.
it has great range and doesn't get too hot.
range: i have a laptop (intel 5100) and a netbook (atheros ar2400) and both can see a neighbor's unprotected wireless network, but only this device can get a strong enough signal to actually connect to it. this device sees wireless networks in the neighborhood that the laptop only sees if i set it on the window sill. this is all with the provided antenna, but attached to a usb extension cable (so as to not block the neighboring usb ports). i haven't attached a cable and omni antenna to it yet to see what range i can get with a better antenna and antenna placement.
heat: i previously purchased a cheap ($10) wireless b/g usb dongle (ralink rt2500) that gets really hot and starts to smell like burning plastic after just a few minutes (and its range is worse than the netbook's and laptop's built-in adapter). that was my first experience with wireless usb dongles and i was wary about this device, but it doesn't even get warm after hours of use.
i'm considering buying another one just to have around as this one worked so well.

Thanks... Just got 1 for my new Win 7 64. My previous Netgear N adapter sucks. I can't find the driver for that.
Uses a realtek RTL8188SU chip. Works with Windows 7 64 bit.
