Newegg has the Rosewill RX-C525 5.25" SATA Trayless Hot Swap Mobile Rack for 3.5" SATA I/II/III HDD for $20 - 20% off with coupon code EMCJHJF74 = $16 with free shipping. Allows you to hot swap any 3.5" drive and supports up to 6 Gb/sec transfer speeds.
1) It does not work as it is in a tool-less case. The side mounting brackets float around on rubber isolation padding to the main hard drive cage. The sides have to be screwed on to the case to hold the side brackets in place. I have a Cooler Master case that is tool-less and has no screw holes to mount this. I had to make a "U" shaped piece of stainless steel sheet metal to be placed over the top of this to hold the side brackets out so my tool-less case mounting could clamp on to this.
2) Any Hot Swap requires the SATA controller to be setup as AHCI and the controller must support "Hot Swap". An SATA add on card may be the easy way to go for some that want this feature, than you use the drive just like a USB drive.
3) No cooling for the drive. A 7200 rpm drive could easily over heat if air is not blown over the drive. I added a fan below this to blow air over the drive and keep it cool.
It does work great for my backup's and swapping drives. Much better than a docking station and as fast as a regular drive.
Good reviews, I'm in for one.
I've got your good review,.,HANGIN HERE
You know you're special when you've been permanently oinked.
In for one. I'll try it, anything that fits in the computer and not on the desk (docking station) is efficient in my book.
Here's a 2.5" dual dock for $10.39 shipped after promo code:

This does have it's problems.
