Newegg has the Rosewill RX-DU101 2.5" & 3.5" SATA to USB HDD Dock for $25 - $9 off with coupon code EMCYVYN22 [Exp 7/4] = $16 with free shipping. Supports hard drives up to 2TB, supports hot swapping, and 580Mbps transfer rates with USB 2.0.
Bought one of these a few months ago. Works as described.
Very convenient if you have a SATA drive to attach without wanting to crack open your case. Mine gets very limited use, but still very handy on the few occasions when needed.
Got one of these free w/HDD purchase several months ago. Originally thought and planned to only use it for temporary drive access but after stuffing a drive in, ended up leaving the same drive in (got a second one of these free with another HDD purchase to use for other things) and it has worked flawlessly with daily use.
Spins down drives after about 10 minutes of inactivity... might be ideal to save power but might not be if you have to very frequently wait for the drive to spin up upon access... so whether it's ideal has a lot to do with your drive access patterns. I usually access it a single-digit # of times a day making backups as temporary storage till moved to a NAS if applicable, so for me it doesn't matter.
