Ben, it's a prequel.
It's not really a prequel--the character gets turned into a vegetable at the end by the character from SoC, from something he did near the end of the game.
So timeline-wise, it is basically the same game from a different point of view.
BTW, I really enjoyed both STALKER games and really hope they make more. Soon.
