I've had the other Saitek Eclipse keyboard and it was terrible. The biggest problem - soft and slow keystrokes. My WPM went down substantially trying to type fast on that one. I suspect that this keyboard is similar.

I disagree. I own this keyboard and I absolutely love it. The keys are illuminated well and it's very durable. Maybe you just got a dud
At this price it's a steal. I payed $75 for mine about a year ago and this one is an updated model. You cant go wrong.
I had this keyboard for awhile, and the performance of this keyboard isn't bad, although the keys are a little soft. What irked me the most was that the lighting on the keyboard wasn't even, and I decided to sell it. Personally, I love my Logitech UltraX keyboard, it has laptop-style keys and the tactile feel is great.
Um...#3? The responses you gave to #1's grievences had nothing to do with his complaints.
#1: "MY SON IS DEAD!!!" #3: "No, he isn't. Look: my toast landed butter-side up."
While I do love this keyboard, and recomend it for anyone looking for a baconlooking keyboard without going overboard *coughG15cough* since it's a very well-made and functional keyboard...I will say that I could see how someone who's a very fast typer would take issue with it's soft feel...
I type sustained 90+ WPM and my typing speed did not change when I got this board except for the first week or so while I adjusted to simply having a different shape and key feel from my last board. I actually think it's somewhat a matter of a little break-in time, as my board felt substantially less soft after a couple months of using it.
Been using it for over a year now and I like it a lot.
The reviews of the Eclipse II say that it is much improved over the original Eclipse, so #1's comments don't apply to this one.
The best illuminated keyboard is the Logitech G11. Logitech makes great keyboards, and the G11 will run you about $10 more than the Eclipse II on average. They're both good, it really comes down to what you're looking for. The G11 is fairly large and has blue illumination, the Eclipse II is smaller and has blue, red or purple illumination.
Logitech also makes the G15, which is the G11 with an LCD display that you may or may not ever use. It's usually about $15 more than the G11.

Why would you want a keyboard that lights up anyways?

Yes, I feel that is the greatest achievement in my life and take every opportunity to brag about it

G series is mainly for gaming.. the macrokeys are nice (photoshop?). saitek II would be better at around $25~30
Anyway, as long as it's fancy and works good, the price is reasonable. I hope it will come with a fancy mouse too.
