Official ICS update is just weeks away. This is a super awesome deal! I guess ppl are too busy praising the new iPad and making apple fat.

Why not just buy a refurbed iPad2 right from Apple for $349? They even original iPad for $299. I just don't see why this is such a hot deal.

This actually falls in the performance range of Ipad 2 competition. Same amount of RAM as the Ipad 3. Some people even prefer the Galaxy tab to the ipad 2 or the Asus transformer. It even has a slightly bigger screen, and given that it is a samsung, it likely has most of the same guts as the ipad.

Newegg customer service is excellent. So by using your logic this is a great deal.

Think about it this way: Why buy an equivalent tablet when you can pay 25% more and buy a different brand?

I love that these things are finally coming down in price. I just wish the android and apple faithful would relax a bit sometimes. The hate spewing on countless message boards is getting old.

I certainly hope that my post didn't come across as "hateful" .... The iPad outsells Android tables roughly 8 to 1. I thought some people might like to know they're also available refurbished at similar prices.

Think about it this way..... why buy the knockoff when you can have the original for only 17% more. Considering Apple is ranked #1 in customer service by Consumer Reports it might even be considered a better deal.

The galaxy tab is the thinnest and lightest 10" class tablet on the market.

@Jimbo122: No, I do not think your post come accross "hateful," you just sound like a typical brand loyal Apple customer trying to preach that Apple prooducts is the only sheet that people should consider out there. That freaking annoys me, BTW.

Not sure who does their "refurbing" for these but the reviews seem to indicate less than stellar QC.

It's good to see the iPad 2 coming down to more attainable price points. But even if it were the same price as the comparable samsung or asus tablet, I'd still rather buy the android device. The latest generation of tablets are no longer just sad attempts to rush a comparable product to market. They're solid, high performance, high tech gadgets that can hold their own against the iPad.

As a former iPhone owner (3g, 3gs, and 4g), I got tired of the constant iOS updates, waiting for the latest jailbreak before I can run the os update, then re-jail-breaking my device. I always felt I was working against Apple to get around operating system controls and efforts to limit custom-ability. I'm sure it all ultimately boils down to personal preference.... And there are a lot of positives to the Apple brand if that's what you like. I just prefer my devices being on an open source, highly customizable platform.

Uhh, there's nothing "original" about Apple tablets, they've been inevitable gadgets in development for years by many companies. The real question is why pay more for less?

Granted Apple has an advantage with the new iPad for graphic intensive 3D gaming, "maybe"... depends on the title and developer as there may be a performance advantage but nVidia's GPUs have historically supported more in game graphical features for a better overall visual representation.

Unfortunately we're pretty close to a dead end on tablets until better battery tech comes along, otherwise it'll just be a matter of size vs which lent-from-laptop features they incorporate and tweaking touch screen GUIs, updating cellular standards, etc.

I got both iPad 1 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

I am not impressed with SGT too much. Sure it has more memory and dual core and a wider screen and thinner - which all sounds good but....

The out of the box apps where a little confusing
3 email programs, eMail, Gmail, and Samsung mail - which are not related or sync with each other
at least 3 video players - why???
a couple of camera/video recorder apps that dont share data between the 2
The speech to Text capabilities always uppercase T's - meaning if you dictate an email it comes up like this "This is a TesT To show This working like ThaT"...which you have to go back and edit you email which defeats the purpose of dictating.

Then comparing apps between iPad and SGT -
Most games (uno, gun bros, drag racing, angry birds) look the same but a lot of other apps look bland such as
Weather Channel app (iPod on left - Android on right)
      http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l484/atari8001/Tablets-WeatherChannel.png

There are a lot of applications that look "bland" for Android - mostly because they dont utilize the entire screen and uses small text. Facebook and Chase Banking app have tiny text and leaves tons of blank area unused.
and the Android market place (or Amazon or Appbrain or Samsumg Apps store or...) have little to pick from (at least as entertainment in my opinion). Holy Bible, Sodoku, Tic Tac Toe, Solitaire, Freecell, checkers, good fart and Hangman in the "top free games". If you look hard enough you can find sites that give "free paid apps" but good luck with those.

Another thing is the apps dont always seem to work (only speaking for SGT). I downloaded 3d mahjong, I got a title screen and then it faded to white. I quit out of the game and started it again with same result. I touched the screen to see that there were buttons in some of the white areas of the screen which drew the areas in with the actual game picture, but the game was unplayable.
