Has anyone else noticed that the price of 3.5" hard drives has not fallen much in the last year?

It should be obvious by now that BensBargains has really become BensAdvertising. With all of the non-deal posts from all the usual online merchants, it's hard to filter through to the actual deals that sometimes still show up here.

This Samsuing Spinpoint isnt a hot deal per se, but it has to be noted that this drive is best in class and is notably better than any Seagate right now in desktop performance, temperature, and noise level.

Not deal: This one has been like this for the last three months. Sometimes, this drive has been on sale for $100 from Newegg.

I can't really say much for Samsung drives since I've never tried one but the 500GB Seagate 16MB SATA/PATA drive will be $99 at BB again next week. Assuming you don't need the drive by tomorrow and have no preference between Samsung and Seagate, you might as well wait until Sunday and go pick up the Seagate.

actually- I like the fact that ben continues posting the prices for these items. If he didn't continually post the prices, then you will forget what a good deal is. It lets me know what the average price is for an item these days. You'll be able to spot a deal right away when you see it. By continually posting the price, it gives a history on the items (use the history link on each posting)

that way you can look back at what was the lowest price, and how long ago has it been, therefore that can help us look for a potential future price drop.

that's how I look at it.

#9) I agree with you, but it does not make sense that "normal prices" for items should be posted. The Samsung (which is a very good drive, I have bought 5 of them!)has been $110 for a few months now. If it suddenly went down to $100, it would be considered a deal, not at $110.

I also use BB to look at historical deals. Then I make a comparison with sites like Pricegrabber to see if it is a deal, or not... (or other sites)
