according to newegg.com is 30 days
I found interesting thing on samsung website:
    RMA Instruction

Before you return your HDD, please run the SAMSUNG Diagnostic Program. If the defect is confirmed by the SAMSUNG diagnostic program, please follow the directions below

    1. Please contact and request the RMA(Return Material Authorization) service to your dealer(supplier). Your dealer(supplier) has the RMA responsibility.
    2. To return for replacement, pack the drive in an anti-static bag (original SAMSUNG box). You must always keep the original box and packing materials for storage or shipping.
    3. If the drive is improperly packed, it will be returned to you unrepaired through freight collect.
    4. SAMSUNG is not responsible for :
    Data loss
    Data recovery
    5. SAMSUNG will replace defective drives with a refurbished drive.
    6. SAMSUNG will inspect the HDD and if its damage was caused by neglect, misuse or other forces outside of SAMSUNG's control, it will be returned unrepaired through freight collect.

point 1,2,3 says that newegg will replace the drive
on other hand I like samsung but this policy sucks big time
    is this true policy?

Yeah I already noticed all that. Basically this thing has no warranty.

Wow that's really lame. I remember Maxtor used to require that. Problem is how that program is going to read a dead hard drive? I'm glad I only bought an 80gb samsung for backup. Could have been worse.

I guess I am dumb, but when this happens to me I always tell them. Um, the Diag program can not run. The drive is clicks occasionaly when it is powered on, and the BIOS never reconizes the drive. Then I walk through all the baconnaise they want me to do. (after telling them this is the only drive in the system, no CDRoms hooked up, et al.

Then after answering all their questions like I am actuallyl DOING something...which I aint. They give me an RMA.

    Never failed, my process...that is.

Samsung does usually have a 3 year warranty on its drives. Absolutely no mention of warranty here is what makes me hesitate.

    haha #7
I can imagine you on the phone clicking a mouse that isn't even connected to the computer and saying "OK, now what?"

on another note, newegg has a WD 500gb SATA HD for the same price

why waste your time with a samsung HD?

I personally would rather have a cheaper product without a warranty that works. To quote the late, great Tommy Boy, "Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time."

All this nonsense about how bad the warranty is, is just silly. Are you teenagers who have never read warranty specifications? Every other manufacturer's policies are just about the same and WD's are for sure the same.

That doesn't mean that they stick to those policies. Relationships can be built and finesse, humility, politeness, etc. go a long way.

Maxtor's "no quibble" warranty (no longer existent) was the best in the HD world an was why I bought all my hard drives from them. Now, it really doesn't matter because I buy extended warranties on all of them and wind up using them because hard drives just aren't as durable as they used to be.

why buying extended warranty when seagate give you already 5 years for same price,
for samsung for one year is another 20 bucks,
this is not deal if you can get seagate hd with 5 yers warranty for same money
