Based on the reviews on newegg, you may want to think twice about this dive if you are using an nforce chipset.
And one person reports problems with a P35 motherboard. Hmmmm.
I love how I paid way too much for this drive 3 weeks ago.
It's a command queuing issue. It should be disabled until verified to work. ATA's history is filled with specs differing from hardware implementation -- especially since the BIOS chipset setup, drive IDE (integrated drive electronics), controller (ATA to PCI bus arbitrator) and driver must all agree. And yes, SATA drives are still an IDE approach (16-bit PC/AT data link interconnect, with DDR/QDR at high MHz) to PCI (even if the PHY is PCIe, its still 32-bit PCI data link transfers). Native Command Queuing (NCQ) is just another bump in the road, and seems to be affecting all OSes (including Linux) on various chipsets.
wow - excellent price ratio; 6.82gb per $1 or 14.6 cents per GB
Too many problems with this drive.
what does compwiz think?
I suspect it might be something simple, as I found out with my WD640gb. Bought the first one from NE, and it would hang and BSOD my new quad box. Nothing I did allowed me to format it or load an OS.
Sent back and got another, which had the same problem. Tried swapping cables, PSU connectors, ports on the motherboard. Finally picked up a SATA to USB convertor and it formatted fine. Installed it on the Motherboards SATA port and problems all over again. Finally flashed the BIOS on my 4 month old Abit IP35 and POOF, the problem went away. Sad considering these larger size drives have been out for at least a year now.
Edit: spelling
If you have a local Fry's Electronics store, they have this drive on sale today & tomorrow for $99.99.

I agree with others that there could be issues with this drive and certain chipsets.
Thanks #9...I might go check that out at lunch.
