not only is this an amazing price per GB, this is one of the fastest drives out. It can achieve file transfer rates exceeding 100mb/s, due to it having the highest platter density of any consumer hard drive(334GB/platter, rather than seagate's 25GB/platter). Also, it's as quiet as the much slower(somewhere around 5400RPM) WD large capacity drives(green power line). This does seem to be the fastest high capacity drive for most workloads, although it suffers under multi-file access server-type loading(which isn't really something that the average desktop computer ever deals with).

So, it's finally happened, you get low price(under $0.17/gb), high performance(over 100mb/s), and low noise, all in the same hard drive. It seems like quite the deal to me.

Wow thanks for the info, I want to jump on one but I need a SATA PCI controller card for my old desktop first.

Here is a good review of this drive: http://techreport.com/articles.x/14200/1

as you can see in some of the benchmarks there(check out file copy tests) this drive can really put out noticeably better performance than all of the other drives tested in some areas.

Damn I bought this only 2 weeks ago for $25 more. Should have waited but needed the storage right away.

Real world user reviews on this drive have been a mixed bag. Reports of the drive being incompatible with some controllers, and drives arriving DOA. Check Newegg & others for some of the issues. And of course, only a 3 year warranty.
