Samsung 840 Series MZ-7TD120BW 2.5" SATA III 120GB SSD for $76 shipped after $40 rebate [Exp 12/10]
Obligatory warning: TigerDirect + Rebate = pain and suffering
The 840 is not an improved 830, it uses a different, cheaper type of flash memory. Endurance is lower (though AnandTech asserts this is not a concern for most users) and performance is worse. The 840 Pro (which this is not) uses the same type of flash memory as the 830, and the performance is better than the 830.
The 840 should've been called the 820, and 840 Pro should've been 840.
Snagged an 830 256GB from B&H for $180 shipped.
Sometimes older is better.
I'm glad I stocked up with the 830 256gb about 2 months ago. The price was at $170 which wasn't the greatest, but I had a hunch that it won't stay that way. Didn't know the 840's were going to be a step backward.
I'll stick with Intel & Kingston HyperX.
