    It's about 50mb write & read difference, and perhaps 1-2 second(s) boot time slower.

    The 540 PRO is the one to get.

    840 newer, slower, and more expensive.now I'm waiting for someone to tell me it's less reliable as well

    Actually, it seems fine. The Pro is much much faster though. However, most seem to argue that the speed differences are negligible in real world applications. That said the 840 and 840 pros have some good pc games attached at the moment which might be worth factoring in the price.

    Uses TLC memory, which has 1/3 the cycle endurance of MLC memory which is used in the 830. The 840 Pro uses MLC memory. Also, read, program, and erase times are below MLC specs. 840 also uses a different controller than 830 series, the latter of which is known to be ultra reliable. May not matter to some, but given all that, I'd stick with the 830.
