Meh! This was on Amazon a couple of weeks ago $167 no tax and 8 BD movies (the deal was buy it and get $200 off if you bought 8 BD movies from a set selection). I missed it, I had just worked out what a great deal it was and was adding it to my cart when they sold out. But I got a similar deal on the panny BD35 for $200 with 4 movies a couple of days later from Amazon.

This should be around $150 for a deal.

re: this (or similar) vs PS3

I think one should consider the extra costs in both time and money associated with buying a PS3 vs a stand-alone player. Up front, it's whatever price diff there is tween the player and the PS3. In the long run, you will also be buying games at 30-60 bucks a shot, extra controllers and accessories, like the Blu-ray remote control unless you want to use the controller as the remote. Time-wise, you'll be splitting your leisure time between watching movies and playing those games, so in theory you get less utility out of the movie player aspect of the PS3. Might be okay if you have enough leisure time to do your fill of both though.

Oh, and the remote for the PS3 is Bluetooth, so you can't use most all in one remotes to replace it or merge it with your others.

$179 at Costco in San Diego (Morena Blvd)..

#7 - but you can easily get a Nyko PS3 remote and program your Logitech remote to learn the Nyko commands - then return the Nyko remote and be able to control the PS3 for Blu-ray with your Logitech.

The PS3 receivers are not cheap, you're adding to the cost of a blu ray player now because you need to purchase the receiver separately.

#8 don't you lose a USB slot for the IR receiver part though? I thought the new PS3's only had two of those.

If you can wait for 6 more month, I think it will drop down to around $100

Not bad, but not a great deal either. I'd wait a little more.

These have problems reading some DVD's. A firmware update has been know to make this player a door stop. Go with the Panasonic.
