How does this compare to the $100 players?
From what I remember from last November, this was one of the 2 best players out there (not including the PS3 and the high-end Oppo models). I treid desperately to get this model for $200, but it was sold out everywhere at that price. This is a good deal (though I've never had problems with refurbished items, others may feel differently).
#2, no desire, no despair. I will pass blewray and whatever-ray coming.
I rather get a PS3, it's much worth it plus you get the upgrade in the future.
Rather get a PS3 over this?! Uh yea, not when it's over $200 more and NOT a set top box. Especially considering high end regular DVD players cost nearly this much not long ago. Save the PS3 comments for another post because you clearly don't know what you are talking about.
Refurbie makes it a bacon
Knock Knock.
Who's there?
Bacon.
Bacon who?
.
mmm bacon
#5, the $100 PS3 deal has cropped up here a few times in the recent past. Even if you don't want to deal with the credit card shuffle, the PS3 is still 3x the machine this is. Cheer up.
Great player...but I've gotten burned on some refurbs before...step cautiously.
really nice ethernet connect. ability to keep the software current these days is under rated. and seriously its nice the pice is actually normal for a home movie player
Sorry for the rage. Ironically, I actually own a PS3. But at this price I think it's a good deal for anyone seeking a BluRay player, even if it's refurb.
comes with 3 month warranty.
I'm trying to figure out what is the big hoop-la over blue ray, doesnt the TV make the difference? i have a 42 inch JVD 1080 and the DVD that I play in my $250 DVD player and my $25 pawnshop DVD player is no different.
#13, there's a huge difference between DVD and Blu-Ray. Yes, if you've got a crappy television it won't matter... but yours should be able to easily show the difference between the two formats (or perhaps you have abnormally good upscaling?).
#13, comparing an expensive dvd player to a cheap dvd player is not the same as comparing a dvd player to a blue ray. Also, this is one of those only as good as the weakest link situations.
Are the load times still slow on these things?
#13 kdntenn you are kidding right? I realize it may look good but it isn't Blu-ray good #1 because you are pushing a low rez image through a high rez tv.
I own this player and will say it is good but.. If you want Netflix streaming you should go to the 1600 as this is not able to support it even with Firmware upgrades. I should have waited.
I also own this and can echo #17's comments...because of the Ethernet connection, it also supports BD-Live, if you care. It can be a little slow to load but that seems to be the case with virtually any Blu-Ray player.
I bought mine new for $200 near Christmas. As far as streaming, yeah, that's nice, but there are going to be all sorts of options for that going forward -- my FiOS service already offers hundreds of streaming movies a month.
