I am just amazed that people will buy these things outright. Agree that the 2 year contract sucks, but really? $700 for something that'll be "improved" in a month? There's lot's of free phones out there with freakishly similar specs...
I bought this phone and it makes my old SGS2 feel antiquated in comparison. The camera is extremely fast, ICS is beautiful and easy to use and really makes Android a beautiful OS, something I would never have said before.
This has a better screen but the Sammy G2 still wins the shootouts I've seen. There are no free phones it's built into the contract. Tmobile now has plans that separate the phone from the plan. If you get the phone when you sign up it is listed as a separate charge and ends after 20 months one the phone is paid off then your bill becomes cheaper. If you don't renew your contract right when it ends saves you some $..
thezen: Wait. Your complaint is that the Wide Screen High Definition 720p screen is too big?! Huh?
justmythoughts: What? You're "amazed" that people buy phones for $699 with no contract instead of $199 + $80 a month for 24 months? Not a math expert, but your point seems stupid.
datatechent: There are "plenty" of pentaband phones? Can you give us some examples of some that can use LTE, and 4g HSPA+ on T-mobile, At&T all in the same handset? That'd be great. Thanks.
meetnewmrindia: You appear to not know what you're talking about. $699 is cheaper than all but the entry level iphone 4s, and about the same as nearly every new top tier smartphone.
A few observations: 1 - You need phone service so you have to pay something regardless of contract or not 2 - Why all bands?, do you need service from ATT, TMobile and verizon at the same time? I only use one carrier and by the time I want to change the phone I have is already 1 year old which is like 5 years in cell phone years. 3 - World phone? only fro the ones that travel, when I go overseas I take a P-O-S phone because internet is very expensive anyways. 700 dollars for a phone is a rip off.
in response to tonin123's first point: Getting phone service without a contract saves a lot of money in some cases. In the extreme case of getting the $30 T-Mobile plan (100min, 5gb, unlimited texts), you save $1320 over the course of two years vs. a standard $85 AT&T plan to get a subsidized iPhone (450min, 2gb, unlimited texts). For people without a lot of money and connections for discounts who want a productive phone, they can save money with a non-contract plan while purchasing the phone at a higher price.
Disclosure: I would not spend money on this phone either unless I had money to waste or I had connections for a better deal.
I couldn't remember my old login - So I had to create a new account. Anyways this information that Newegg has on their site is incorrect.
The LTE version is only Verizon. Thus seeing as that even Verizon hasn't set a release date and this is a GSM version it would not have LTE in it. Also if it has the 1750 mAh battery (as opposed to 1850 for LTE) it is not the LTE version. The LTE model is 9.47 millimeters thick, just a hair more than the HSPA+ version at 8.9mm -- 0.35" on Newegg is 8.89mm. So folks you don't get LTE with this version that Newegg is selling.
"1 - You need phone service so you have to pay something regardless of contract or not" --tonin123
Yes. $30 a month. Saving you hundreds, if not thousands over the life of a 2 year contract with a "FREE" phone.
"2 - Why all bands?, do you need service from ATT, TMobile and verizon at the same time? I only use one carrier and by the time I want to change the phone I have is already 1 year old which is like 5 years in cell phone years." --tonin123
Because the practice of making an entiely "New" phone by adding an HSPA+ radio to the phone and giving it a new marketing name on a different network is plainly stupid.
"3 - World phone? only fro the ones that travel, when I go overseas I take a P-O-S phone because internet is very expensive anyways." --tonin123
Yes. Because you buy a phone that only works on the band your carrier wants you to have here in the US, and stupidly voulunteer to pay the "roaming" prices they want.
Prepaid sim cards can be purchased nearly anywhere you could travel in the world. And popped in to your phone for almost nothing.
"700 dollars for a phone is a rip off." --tonin123
Of course it is. And ($80 * 24 months) plus $99 = $2,019.00 for your $99 phone is a total steal. You're a genius.
I can't stand smartphone becoming bigger and bigger.
Who needs this size?
Will we have 80's size cellphone again?
I hope iPhone will stay in reasonable size at least...

There are plenty of pentaband phones out in the USA already, this is nothing new.

$700? r u freaking kidding me..

You'll need a plan with this.
http://instoresnow.walmart.com/tmobile.aspx
$30 / month Unlimited 4G HSPA+
I use it now, the 4G sounds crystal clear with VOIP for unlimited minutes.
A $700 phone should at least have LTE.
Um, the iPhone is more expensive than this, doesn't have LTE. And this phone does.

Wow. A phone with a Thinkpad price tag.
I use my Samsung Android to read news and Kindle books in the toilet.

Just a heads up.
