you can usually refill the starter cartridge 2-3 times for about $5-7 a time before it starts streaking. also, a $5-7 page counter reset chip for the cartridge might be needed. still cheaper then a $30+ remanufactured cartridge.
Can you please be more specific (item names, links) of the things you recommend to refill cartridges
^ Usually you can just go on ebay and type [printer brand] [model #] and "toner" to pick among various merchants offering different quantities and a reset chip or the firmware fix that eliminates the chips, whatever fix and toner volume you prefer.
On the one hand needing the firmware fix or reset chips raises the cost over printers that don't need them but on the other hand your up front costs are reduced to get a wifi capable printer for $51.

My wife hated plugging in usb cables into printers all the time and Windows printer sharing is not the best.
