I have one of these; nice little printer, reliable, sharp and the cartridges are easy to refill. But the canonical sale price for this printer is $50. Nothing to see here, folks, move on...

Well it is hard to find them at $50 so this is a great deal at the moment.

I just bought this last week at OfficeMax for $59.99. (onsale from $119). It's still listed for that on their website. Decent price for a small laser printer. I have a Konica Minolta...which I'm unable to get drivers 64-bit Windows 7 driver for. Damn shame.

... and it won't #4, there's a minimum cost involved as it doesn't depreciate when the next tech comes along.

On the contrary you are better off with one that's been in the market awhile, they're more likely to have bulk toner, generic replacement carts, and less likely to have microchipped or fused cartridges requiring higher cost replacements.

This one though, it's pretty low end. Can't handle thicker stock without jamming, doesn't even have a full paper tray under it rather a front load slot that has to stick out, has a lot of banding on greyscale print. Having written that, if you just need B&W text every now and then more than anything else it is a fair option for that.
