Buy.com has the Samsung MZ-7TD500BW 840 500GB 2.5" SATA III Solid State Drive for $400 - $50 off with coupon code 5542AE4 [Exp 12/4] = $350 with free shipping. Features up to 530MB/s read and up to 330MB/s write speeds and a 3 year warranty. Normally around $370.
Newegg had this for $300 for a short while, that price point is possible. Samsung can come down to a lower price whenever they need to, but what other choice do you have for a quality 500GB drive right now? TLC is a small step backwards in performance, but a big step forwards in affordability. Just give the free market a little time for other mfrs to say "gotta get me a piece of that pie".

Unless you're putting this in a laptop, and it's your only means of high-volume storage, I don't see the value here. Better to get a faster, cheaper 256GB drive, and still have plenty of spare room. For a desktop/server, you can add additional cheaper magnetic drives for storage.
Don't let anyone tell you differently because in *actual* use this ssd drive is the bomb!
It utilizes the latest development in ssd technology called TLC (triple-layer-cells), where it puts 3-bits of data in the same storage space that older technology ssd drives only can store 2-bits. This ablilty results in faster reading speeds with slightly slower writing speeds. And since most users spend a *lot* more time reading data than creating it, the slower write speed is a moot point.
It's kinda like most user's internet speeds, where you have something like "20mbs download" paired with only "1.5mbs upload" speeds. Again, this is because most of the time you're reading data not writing it.
So unless all you do all day is sit around and run ssd "benchmark" tests you'll be *very* happy with the performance of these drives, especially for the price. I know I am!
Great marketing deal. Slow down the SSD across the 830, call it 840 and then create a Pro line and charge more.

Hummmm I knew I avoided Samsung for a reason.
