I would suggest buying these in pairs---so you have a backup when the first one fails. I have the SH-222A IDE drives; but my problems have been mechanical in nature---I don't think Samsung has made any changes, other than electrical to this drive. No problems with returns under warranty. The drawer failed to open on the first unit and the drawer closes unexpectedly on the second unit.
Have the SH-S203N, makes a wired grinding sound when burning a disc. Only had it for 15 mos. Stick with sony/lg/lite-on.
is this drive really a DVD+R/W drive only (no DVD-R/W)?
ben's write-up says DVD±RW, but newegg's product title only mentions DVD+R & DVD+RW and the specifications table only lists DVD+R & DVD+RW. i remember there being another drive or two (when i recently purchased a DVD burner), so this isn't an isolated incident.
