This drive has excellent NewEgg.com reviews. I don't have this model, but the Samsung 300GB drive that came in my HP tower 5 1/2 years ago is still alive and well, so I'd say the reliability is pretty good.

The performance is 6 on a scale of 3 to 9.

You don't pick a 5400 RPM HDD for performance, rather to reduce noise, heat, power, and increase lifespan all else being equal. Edit: Remove info.

According to the HDtach I just ran on mine,

the burst read speed is 250MB/s
the average read speed is 110MB/s

When I wrote several hundred GBs to it, it was roughly the same write speed.

I agree with #3 and would like to note that this drive does have three 667GB platters. I've been a fan of the Samsung drives for awhile since the 1TB ones which I noticed ran extremely fast and cool. I would definitely recommend this over the green drives of seagate, WD, and hitachi.

Aren't they always (actually for the last few months) at this price?

I bought this exact drive for $80 from the Egg last November.

    How is this a "deal"?

These are great for security camera systems that often sell the cameras and DVRs without HDs. Or to just replace a smaller HD.

Low Spin=low heat in small DVR shells. Lots of room for 30-40 days or more on better than medium quality settings before over-erasure.

Oops, I overlooked that this is the F4, don't have this series.
