when 4GBs were going for $12... 2GB for $15 seems quite pricey

The Sandisk U3 software that comes on these drives is incompatible with a number of common programs and will cause your machine to lockup/reboot in an endless cycle if there are incompatibilities. I have the 4GB version and can't use it on 2 of my machines for this reason. Read reviews on Amazon to find numerous others with this same issue.

#2: so uninstall the U3. I have this same drive, and I removed the U3. Now it just functions as a normal flash drive.

Indeed, or install PortableApps in its place, which doesn't use any funky CD-emulating driver or dual drive letter garbage.

I love this drive. Bought it back in the day and use U3 at work everyday.

as #7 points out, U3 isn't useless, and can be helpful for some people. However, it has some shortcomings. For example, if you want to make your flash drive bootable (like for a BIOS update), you'll have to remove U3, and once you remove it, you can't put it back on(kind of like the "magic smoke" Laughing ).

However, if you want U3 functionality, you can just use Portable Apps instead. Many people prefer it. It's free and open source, and available here: http://portableapps.com/
