I bought $120 worth of 4GB media (3x SD and 3x CompactFlash) last go-around, before Christmas: it was free after rebate at the time. Sure enough, I got a notice saying my rebate was denied because I didn't purchase from an authorized retailer. I purchased from RITZ.COM (which is really cameraworld.com, I think) and Ritz Camera was on the list; also, I got the rebate form from them. So I called and said I got the postcard and bought from an authorized retailer -- they asked me who (duh, I had checked it on the form and I have copies), I told them and they said fine -- rebate in a few weeks.

So watch out, watch your mail. It sounds like they're going to try to get out of some of these rebates. I thought about writing a letter to my state's G but didn't think it would make a difference, since I'm supposedly getting the rebate.

#16 -- wow, that is a fantastic idea! I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon and had written them suggesting they allow a transaction to be split among multiple cards so I can use up some gift cards (Dell lets you do that, but I don't buy from Dell that much). I didn't think of buying Amazon gift certificates for the exact balance on the card and just using them myself -- I will definitely be doing that.

mitda: i believe the visa gift cards have a "gotcha" should you incur a charge on them beyond the card's initial value. probably a high interest rate, no grace period (interest begins accruing immediately), or other attempts to get your money. i could be wrong (i haven't found the rebates offering a visa gift card good enough to investigate), but i have to believe there's some financial reason why there's a sudden rise in rebates offering visa gift cards.

Screw going backwards, dumb asses, I went forward just as easy and now have lottery numbers.

#20 16GB cards will only come in SDHC configuration. Not in standard SD. If you are indeed referring to SDHC, they are rather common and selling for between $40 to $75.

I'm a moron for only getting 3xSD and 3xCF, I should've gotten 3xSD and 6xCF, so I could fill an Addonics ad4cfprj.
