This is a good price for this basic mp3 player. Good for a cheap mp3 player/stocking stuffer.

Avoid this model of the SANSA's mp3, got about 4 of them and only lasted less than a year.
The 200 series are way better and had last very long. If you don't need the extension card option, go with their clip, those are great to.

I too bought that $15 buy.com refurbished 2GB Sansa c250. They don't sell that one anymore, but they do have a refurbished 1GB Sansa c240 for a dollar less ($14 shipped).

The Sandisk default firmware is atrocious. If your MP3 file is missing some IDv3 tag information or something, then it plain refuses to play or even acknowledge you have that file. It also tries to get you to use this horrible Microsoft MTD protocol that means you have to upload your music to the player using Windows Media Player. bleh!

I put Rockbox on it and that made it much better: I could actually navigate file folders and it will finally play anything you point at. Rockbox firmware currently doesn't support USB or recharging the battery, so whenever you plug the player in for charging, it reboots into the atrocious Sandisk firmware and then I can't play portions of my music collection.

This player's sound quality does not seem as good to me as my homemade TRAXMOD-PIC32 player is and I hate having to stay tethered to a USB port when the internal LiPo battery needs recharging (not to mention the Sandisk firmware reboot). So, I think mine is just going to gather dust on the shelf while I keep on jamming to my TRAXMOD using standard NiMH's that can be recharged externally.

I bought a refurbed Sandisk mp3 player. It worked for less than 2 days. I spent over 6 months writing to Sandisk tech support and then cust service trying to get to work or replaced. They finally said (not in so many words) ‘oh well, too bad it doesn't work' and then wouldn't answer my emails. If you want to toss the dice, go for it. BUT, I will never by another Sandisk mp3 player. There are just too many horror stories (besides mine) out there. I would think hard before buying….
