Bought this last week from buy.com (same deal). Way better than an ipod shuffle -- small enough, has a display, can use any headphones you want, doesn't require special software (just plug into USB and it works). The fact that you can buy it for a fraction of the price of an ipod shuffle is icing on the cake.
Sound fidelity is amazingly good! Problem with refurb Sansa's - bad batteries. Charge it fully, turn off and check 1 or 2 days later to see if it has a full charge. If doesn't, send it back.
Might be worth the extra dollars for Clip+ that can use MSD cards for storage.
I'm with #1 and #2.... It's a great item except for the battery, factory sealed. My refurb one worked great for 30 times maybe.
The biggest fault with the Clip battery is the way Clip is designed.
If you get it wet (like sweating on it which is easy considering the only advantage of Clip's size and rear clip is to hook it on your clothing) the water will tend to wick towards the bottom of the player where the recharge circuit is and the battery solder points, then the minor water-based flux residue remaining on the PCB will concentrate a metal solution from the solder which shorts the battery out over time and in some cases also fries a surface mount diode at the bottom.
... at least, that's what the autopsy of mine revealed after I popped it open and soldered a new battery in to get it working and probed for the fault. I didn't replace the battery with same thing, don't know if you can find exact replacement to buy or not.
I just needed something for an amp in my garage so I put 3 spare NiMH prismatic cells together since I had extras lying around and put that in a little plastic box epoxied or superglued (I forget which) to the back.
Anyway, just an idea or two if you're having battery issues, and such issues may effect Clip+ and other players too except that the small size of the Clip and Clip+, plus lack of screws means popping them open has a fair chance of mangling the little plastic hook tabs that hold the casing together. I managed it ok with a small X-Acto knife blade but it left a few marks. Couldn't get a credit card to work like I often use on other consumer electronics because the small casing was too stiff to flex enough before the credit card did.
