Screw this. I just got the Fuze from woot. It takes a minisd card for expansion and plays vids. It is a bit bigger at about the size of zippo lighter only thinner. This one looks about half that size.
The new version of this, the Clip +, is the single best pure music machine out there, and it's only about $60 at Amazon for a NEW -- NOT refurbished -- 8 gig model that is expandable to 40 gigs. Why would ANYONE want this?
i'd imagine you would want this since it is cheap, but an excellent SMALL mp3 player. pretty simple logic, really. not everyone needs one of these with tons of storage. the fuze looks like a great device (i'm sure it is since the Clip is excellent), but it's more than 2x the price and is huge compared to this one. this is perfect for workouts and such.
Have the 2GB version, got for about $15 bucks a year or so ago...Nice little player...Only drawback for me is the rechargable battery, I like to just pop another one in and keep going.
I also got the 2GB version for $15 a while back. Works great on bike rides and walking the dog. Normally less than a few hours so 2GB is plenty of room.
8gb clip+ ebay $55
I got my 4 GB at Costco for $49 over a year ago. Works well and is very small.
Better than an ipod.
Fuze 2GB refurb is the better deal, $30 at buy.com when they have it.
Clip is a cute novelty, then when it comes to using it the buttons are a bit TOO small, size is ideal only when you're working out and need the least thing possible to strap onto your shirt/etc.
Fuze has a much nicer screen, much longer battery life, more durable casing, and if you're desperate it can play a few converted videos. Why bother spending $60 for a 8GB Clip+? Its battery can't even run long enough to get through 4GB of tunes let alone 8GB, but with the 2GB Fuze for $35, $15 more for $50 total will get you an 8GB miniSD card too.
Fuze is big compared to clip, but only compared to such downsized players, it's still quite small enough to carry around in a pocket and ironically enough I like my Clip a lot better AFTER the battery failed and I glued a plastic case onto the back to put higher capacitor batteries in. Now it only needs recharged about every 10th use.
Either way, Clip and Clip+ just aren't durable enough to be worth $50+, but if you get the least memory possible and upgrade with an add-on memory card you can salvage the memory when the player eventually fails.
