I've got the 1st gen 4GB, about 1.5 years old. Still in excellent shape (hairline crack on the clip). As MP3 players go, this is a super player given the expansion in the microSDHC slot (not sure how that affects battery life tho).

So, the question is, why this as opposed to the Sansa Fuze for 2x the capacity and 4 more dollars?

#3, the main draw (and ergonomic downside if not clipping it to your shirt) is it's smaller. Otherwise, Fuze is a nicer player but you are comparing the price of a new Clip+ to a refurb'd Fuze. I'd go with the Fuze but to each his own.

I prefer these any day over an ipod. No extra software needed. Plays all types of media. Easy to use.

Love my standard clip 8gb with one exception. It just corrupts the whole filesystem once in a while and this is a common bug. Really sucks when you are away from home as its just a glorified radio at that point. No fixes in sight, so buyer beware if this applies to clip+ too.

I got the 8 gig (expandable to 40) last October. It's a great player, but the battery life is a definite negative: advertised at about 15-16 hours, but I have yet to get even 10. Check out anythingbutipod.com for reviews of the original Clip and this big improvement.
Amazon plays with the price on the 8 gig all the time -- I've seen for as little as $54 and as much as $64.

I've got the original-no SDHC slot 4GB Clip, and also the Fuze 4GB, with SDHC slot. I really use them and feel they are better than iPod.
