Dell has the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 4GB MP3 Player (black, red, and blue) for $40 with free shipping. Features 1" OLED, microSDHC, microSD support, FM radio tuner, 40 presets, voice recorder, and belt clip.
Two different categories of music player dude. This is pure music, no video and super small and tough. It's smaller than a box of tictacs. Good for running or the gym.
If I didn't already have a Fuze and a Clip (both refurbs), I'd be all over this deal. The Clip+ takes MicroSD cards and has FM radio. And it's Drag and Drop simple.

Different categories maybe, but Clip/clip+ isn't any tougher than Fuze, the only advantages the former have is they're light enough to clip to your shirt collar or sleeve and standard miniUSB connector cable (which is a downside if you want to dock it to anything). Otherwise the Fuze is a more desirable player.
You can't get a new Fuze 4GB for $40 though, AFAIK.
Clip is lighter so it's likelier to survive a fall onto a hard surface.
Do you apply the same logic to dropping a block of solid titanium instead?
Fuze has a sturdier casing, as a higher % of total weight. Granted, since it has a larger screen if there's a side impact just being larger means there's more surface area for a potential screen impact, but overall the difference in damage potential is negligable.
If you plan on dropping either, a cushioned case will make far more difference than which model it was.
woot has the fuze (refrib) for $35

Love mine, use it for audiobooks in the car.
