#1, my two refurb 2gb Clips have been just fine. I can barely tell that they are not new (except for the obvious difference in packaging). You might be interested in the new Clip+ that was just announced and should be shipping soon. Better control placement and microSD slot!

Refurbs are nothing to be scared about, and make for a better deal overall.

Refurbs mean used. Somebody returned them for some reason.

#4, not necessarily, it could mean someone broke the screen, so the swapped it out with a new one. About 90% of refurbished computer hardware and the like are returns from people who didn't know how to use them.

I've got the 2gb version and it's a great little mp3 player. It went through the washing machine and the dryer and still works! I'll definitely look into the Clip+ as the lack of a microSD slot is my only complaint.

#6, that's ironic that yours still work after going through the washing machine. I, on the other hand, have had miserable luck with these units and moisture. I've had 2 - 4GB ones and 1 - 8GB ones. Everyone one have stopped working multiple times. I suspect it's because of moisture from sweat during my workouts or rain splashing onto them. The last one worked for a week before it stopped working. I think the moisture gets in via the USB port.

They, however, have pretty good warranty. They will send you a pre-paid shipping label for you to return the defective unit.

I bought a 3 pack of the 2gb refurbs for $17 each on Woot. 2 are still going, 1 died. My sis had the one that died, not sure if she broke it or what. But I love these little guys! I wouldn't recommend anything more than a 2gb though. With only 3 items on display, searching through 8gb of music is near impossible. And for what you're using it for there's really no need to ever have 8gb on it! Personally, I think the +2gb Sansa's are a waste of money. If you want 8gb of music, spend the extra and get an 8gb Zune, iPod, Creative Labs, etc.

I buy refurb electronics all the time. Generally unlike new it's been 100% inspected for problems.

#8 good point re the larger capacity units. One other big improvement in the Clip+ is the addition of folder browsing (in addition to database navigation via ID3 tags).

I have had a 2GB clip for a long time and I love the damn thing, I make everyone I know with an iPod shuffle jealous.

$50 isn't that amazing of a price though for a refurbished 8GB clip when you can get a brand new 4GB clip+ (with better folder navigation and an expansion slot) for the same price.

The NEW 8GB Clip in black color was $49 at Wal-Mart local stores several months ago. Don't know if it is still available. My original red 2GB Clip bought when the Clip was first released is still going. For such small player, I feel 2GB is optimal. Also, for those having songs tagged in East Asian languages, the Clip could display the tags in Chinese and Japanese characters while setting the menu in English, which the m200, c200 or e200 series could not without Rockbox.

Wait for the new Sansa Clip +. It'll has a microSD card slot! In the future when 32GB microSD cards are available you will be able to carry 40GB in a player the size of a matchbox.

Got the 2GB version for about $15 bucks..bacon works, but you have to recharge it through USB...Personally I like the players I have that I can throw in a rechargeable AAA battery.
