I'm pretty sure it is a dumb port multiplier and presents all disks to the host. Seems kinda odd to list supported RAID modes on since the device itself probably has nothing to do with the RAID.
Still a good price on an 8-port SATA port multiplier with eSATA. Just keep in mind 8 drives could pretty easily saturate the single eSATA uplink.
The case just has a port multiplier in it; the (crappy) card it comes with is how you get your various raid levels. It looks like it's a pair of four port multipliers in this one, so you hook both ports on your card to both ports on the the back of the cage.
I had all kinds of problems with my five port version of this thing, and ended up replacing it with a 5-in-3 plus a decent SATA card. My drives were disappearing all the time, and the performance when using more than one or two drives at a time was horrible.
