I have the 4 drive version of this, and I have to say I'm not all that impressed. Speeds drop like a rock if you try to use more than one drive at a time, and it seems to "reset" if you do something like read from one drive and write to another.

It's most likely a problem with the card that came with the thing, but overall, meh.

I also have the 4 bay version. I've been using it in conjunction with an Intel SS4200 to run unRAID. I have not witnessed any of the issues you have described. It has performed very well for me.

UnRAID (with parity turned on) by default has somewhat slower speeds than just the bare drive, doesn't it?

If the normal throughput to a drive is 100Mb/s, and when I write to two drives it drops to 50Mb/s each, that's still faster than the 30Mb/s you can write to an UnRAID system. Hence, you wouldn't see the performance drop. Also note that unRAID is Linux-based and is obviously using different drivers for the card.

As for the reset, I can't force it to happen. It's just every once in a while when I'm moving a ton of data around things will freeze. I look at the drive lights, they blink a few times, and the move resumes. /shrug.

for the price, this is a very good unit. If you need better performance, change a better raid card.
