I disagree though, this is not always big enough for a large family or guests, more like two healthy adults. Look at the picture. There are a couple steaks but only two slices of potato. Even if we want to avoid being a glutton, within a healthy calorie budget for two adults you'd have two potatoes worth of slices on the grill which in addition to the two steaks would barely even fit!
Granted, if you make it much bigger it might not get hot enough on high with only a 1300W element, since it is an open design that doesn't trap heat like a Foreman/etc grill does. I wonder if you could take a second one and turn it upside down on the food though you might end up needing a 2nd circuit to plug it in so it doesn't trip the breaker.
Looks handy if you live in a region where it stays cold for awhile in winter.
17 by 12 is a big grill. It's useful if you have a large family or guests coming over.
