A friend of mine has one of these; it works great but is a bit bulky, especially compared to a laptop drive. Also, it's going to require an external power source. Sad

Seagate has high rating among external drives. Don't know if this BF will have a good deal for the 1TB version.

seagate claimed the hard drives were no longer available yet they first offered 10% and then 33% discount for the same hard drives that weren't available. and provided links and discount code for 80, 120,160,250gb drives. even with 33% off the price it too high on their site. this was a few weeks ago for 2.5".
forget them. there are other brands and better deals.

I have one of these, bought from Fry's for $80 3 months ago.
#1 you must be mistaken: this IS a laptop drive. And it doesn't require an external power source, though it comes with a cord with 2 USB plugs, though I've occasionally used it with just one USB plug.
    Works fine for me.

Firt seagate cancels my order. Then they spam my inbox with coupons for other products. I was thinking everyone who has had a seagate drive for 5 years or less should call in for a replacement... that will put an end to their nasty business tactics... and their business.

This is a great external drive at a good price, and yes it IS a 2.5" laptop drive that does NOT require an external power source. #1, your friend has the 3.5" version, NOT this one.

#7---I've had the same experience and I agree with you up to the point of returning drives. I like Seagate drives.

Agreed with #5 njb. I ordered a 120 GB at very good deal 2 weeks ago but to find out yesterday that they canceled my order after all this long wait. They claimed to have over sold this item by about 18,000 units and they could not stop taking orders for 2 days. What a waste of time. Now, look for other deals and forget about super deals from Seagate. Very disappointing!

Forget to add this comment to # 11. BEWARE of maxtor/Seagate deceiving warranty tactics. I bought a MATOR interanl HD about 18 months ago then it crashed. The box said a 3-year warranty in black and white, but when I called in for a replacement they go by serial # and insisting on only 1 year warranty on that drive. They said my drive was bought during transition time when Maxtor merged with Seagate. Maxtor gave only 1-year warranty at that time. They said if serial # begins with ST... then it is 3-year warranty. Mine is ST... but they then said that their computer show that it is only 1-year warranty. WHAT IS THIS??? To prove the 3-year warranty to them I have to send in the box(which I have kept) and the receipt(which is ????) or no more warranty. So, keep your box and receipt. It may come in handy. What a deceiving way to do business by Mxator/Seagate.

This isn't a Seagate deal. It's an Office Depot deal on a Seagate drive.

#13 but office depot only has 14-30 day return policy, it's seagate that does repair replacement.

#12 credit card doubles warranty if you paid with cc

Nope Seagate sucks for treating us all like baconnaise with that bogus deal of theirs. Hi Seagate bought 3 western digitals this week.

I, too, am now in the anti-Seagate camp after their sale fiasco and their lack of any sort of meaningful apology for the way they treated people.
