ZipZoomFly.com has the Seagate ST3500630AS 500GB 7200RPM 16MB Buffer SATA Hard Drive (7200.10 perpendicular recording) for $70 + $7 shipping = $77 shipped. Covered by Seagate's signature 5-year warranty. [BizRate]

    I was thinking of the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148262&nm_mc=AFC-Bensbargains&cm_mmc=AFC-Bensbargains-_-NA

VS this one, but I think for $10 bucks more, it does give you twice the storage. The reviews for this 500GB drive isn't too convincing on Newegg though. I just hope this $10 extra is for twice the storage and not for twice the headach. Any thoughts?

I will be running my OS out of this drive since I have another 500GB drive for storage, so initially I was thinking of going small and fast, but looking at the SATA II drives now, it seems like for a couple of bucks more the storage doubles. I started out with 7200.10 ST380815AS 80GB drive which with shipping is about $50, then I jumped to the 250GB (mentioned above) for $65, now I'm thinking of getting the 500GB at $77. What do you guys recommend for the purpose of running the OS, reliability, and best bang for the buck? Thanks!

Its gotten to the point where I use hard drives like floppy discs. Just get an external USB/eSATA dock for your SATA drives.

#1, just buy it, you don't have to go around and around and around and asked for opinions, no one cares for sure. You sound like a crying baby, I paid $200+ at CompUSA for a 4.3gig 10 yrs ago now for almost 1/3 of the cost I got more than 100X of the storage, well, I don't need anyone else opinions.

I have an opinion on icmac2, but I guess I'll refrain.

2nd thought - I think the 4.3GB drive you mentioned may be stuck in your a$$! Laughing

#4, Uhm... didn't you just give him YOUR opinion? Of COURSE these forums are for other's opinions, experiences and sharing of knowledge (along with dribble from trolls). #1, double your space for $12!

This is under $0.16/GB. Enough said.

I have this drive, bought it last November.
Runs very well but it clicks a little bit louder than my previous drives.

#16 Hard drives were $100 per MEGABYTE in the '80's, it's the digital law (encompasses Moore's law as a subset), that anything digital you buy this year will be less as soon as you unbox it. Wink
